The Deposit Guarantee Fund of Romania has a new Director, Mr Niculae Vulpescu. Mr. Niculae Vulpescu has a broad activity and experience in the financial-banking and economic area, having held throughout his career important offices within numerous institutions. Thus, Mr. Niculae Vulpescu was Director and General Director in the Finance Ministry for a long period of time. Likewise, between 1993 and 1999 he was Vicepresident of the Romanian Court of Accounts, having been elected for this position by the Romanian Parliament. Afterwards, Mr. Niculae Vulpescu has worked in the National Bank of Romania initially as adviser to the Vicegovernor and later on as adviser to the Governor of the National Bank of Romania. Starting from 2003, Mr. Niculae Vulpescu has been directly involved in the Fund’s activity as member in the Fund’s Board, and from 2004 up to the end of February 2008 as Chairman of the Fund’s Board, having brought significant contributions to the Fund’s achievements recorded in that period. For the following period, the Fund will pursue the development of its activity both by approaching new operation headings and expanding the existing ones as well as the strengthening of its position as part of the financial safety net.
