Ispra Meeting and news On 10 and 11 April the EFDI EU Committee met in Ispra (Varese – Italy) at the Joint Research Center Headquarters. On that occasion the EFDI 5 Working Groups reported on their state of work. The Working Group on Risk Based Elements (III WG) is waiting for the data from the Joint Research Center (JRC). The other WGs reported on work in progress and welcomed feedback. The Chairs since then have initiated consultations among EFDI EU Members to gather any comments. These will be embedded in the draft report. After approval by the EU Committee, the papers will be sent to the European Commission. Thereafter, a broader international consultation on the papers will take place. The first WG papers to be sent to the European Commission before the Summer holidays are: 1) Scope of current definition of deposits (I WG) 2) Information exchange with and between DGS (II WG) 3) Best practice concerning the improvement of consumer information on DGS (WG IV) 4) Duration of payment delays to depositors (V WG) The III WG will meet the JRC representatives on 21 May to receive data. The European Commission has invited Mr Roberto Moretti (EFDI Chairman) to the European Banking Committee (Brussels, 20 June 2008) to report on the above four papers.

The EFDI Board met in Ispra (Varese – Italy) on 10 of April 2008 by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. In the same location the EFDI EU Committee met, on 10 and 11 April, to examine the work-in-progress of the five Working Groups and to exchange points of view on 6 different issues given by the European Commission on self regulatory measures to improve the cross-border functioning of DGS.

In November 2007 the Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund and the Deposit Insurance Agency of Russia signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation envisioning exchange of experience and information with the view to refining the deposit insurance schemes of both countries. The MoU provides for holding seminars and workshops as well as setting up working groups on issues of mutual interest.

The EFDI Board Meeting and the EFDI EU Committee Meeting will take place in Ispra (Varese – Italy) on the 10th and the 11th of April 2008. The EFDI Board Meeting will be held on the 10th of April – morning. The EFDI EU Committee Meeting will begin in the early afternoon of the 10th of April and it will continue the on the 11th of April. It will end in the early afternoon of the 11th of April. Soon more details will follow.
